Black 'n' White

Just a quick sketch in Photoshop of Sevelle. I'm getting a little better at using my tablet, but have a looooong way to go. Note to self: low opacity is good for painting.

Study

A quick study done once I was done drawing out "what i wore". Only took about 15-20 minutes (aw yeah)! I'm very pleased with how it turned out, this is a small bit of encouragement to play around in Photoshop.

P.S. Don't be hating on the crow skull.

WIP

A WIP. I should probably improve on drawing non-human things.

Scream

I'm seriously debating whether I should sleep at all.
On ne devrait pas essayer de faire trop d'activites a la fois. Ca cause une multitude de problemes.
Si je survis cette semaine, je serai une fille contente.

Gift #1

It's finished! I made a little trip to Staples today to get a poster done and it turned out great! Oh glossy paper, you complete my art. One done, two to go.

P.S. Small confession, TforT isn't going to be finished. Mainly since I'll be busy working and volunteering for the rest of the summer, I'll just have enough time to prep for school/ complete gifts. I'm kicking myself in the shins.

P.S.S. Will post incomplete TforT stuff/ other things soon.

Time taken:~15 hours (mostly due to learning Photoshop)

Double Dose

Well, it's been one heck of a week. Volunteering, tutoring, work orientation session... Friday was the first day I was able to actually do something all to myself. The result?A 13km run, the completion of Avatar, and a small painting. And I didn't stop there, no sirree. Another painting today, that's right. Oh, how I love traditional media. If you're interested on me blabbing about the process for each and my feelings for painting, read the descriptions below.

[Galaxy Girl]
Okay, the photo doesn't do this any justice whatsoever. This took about..2-3 hours total. The materials used were some old absorbent news print -like material from art camp, watercolours, and some acrylics (and construction paper for the background). The most frustrating part was probably the watercolour portion. The wash turned out alright, but I couldn't seem to get the galaxy feel with just green and red blobs. As soon as I grabbed my acrylics, balance was restored to the world. Hooray!

[Le Coucher du Soleil]
Ignore my attempts to be cool and use my rapidly rusting French knowledge. Again, the photo doesn't show the texture of the painting that well, but it's better than Galaxy Girl. The materials used were Naugahyde (a brand of pleather), acrylics, and a small amount of watercolour paint. I'm not sure what I was thinking when I grabbed pleather from art camp (with permission of course), but it was awesome to paint on. The thick texture allowed me to slather paint without worry of damaging the material, aka best thing for Jennifer .Plus it gave a cool timeworn look with the cracks (not pictured). This one was more fun to paint since the limited palette (2-3 shades each of blue and orange, as well as black and white) gave a great contrast. The hill/ person could have been done better, but whatever - the background is what matters the most. I was intending on doing a simple sunset, but in the end it became my vision of this quote (taken from Le Petit Prince):

«Tu sais, quand on est tellement triste on aime les couchers du soleil...»
«Le jour des 44 fois tu étais donc tellement triste?»
Mais le petit prince ne répondit pas.

Confession Session / Art Dump

Well, I've clearly underestimated TforT big time. Putting it off until July was not such a great idea. Add a dash of frustration/ running out of my comfort zone for each illustration makes a not so fab experience. As much as I hate to admit it, I will not be able finish TforT by the time school starts - woo serving food to teenagers at the amusement park for the month of August / promised art for birthdays/ school-related things.

But that won't stop me. I can promise that all the sketches (pre-digital painting) will done, but colouring is another matter. If I live like a hermit for winter break, it'll be done. Maybe.

But to better things! I went to my first life drawing session since 2 years ago. I'd like to say I've improved (hallelujah for slightly better anatomy knowlege), but my sketches prove otherwise. Aka, I rocked the 3 minute and 5 minute poses, but still struggle with 30 seconds and 1 minute.

Ready for the art dump? Lets go.

ATLA Love

"You're the Avatar, and I'm an idiot."
(I just realized that his eyebrows are like video game controllers orz)

Fandom

I really don't want to stop with my little nerdy/anime phase right now, I've missed watching my shows so much! (currently watching Persona 4: The Animation then will proceed to this basketball one that my friends have been raving about and ATLA <3) Drawing original work has become harder when fanart is constantly swirling in my head. Stop it self, TforT is the thing you should be focusing on.

Here's a chibi from Avatar The Last Airbender: Legend of Korra. He's such a playa. Will have him coloured and ready for love tomorrow.

Azula Appreciation Day

Here is my very very very late submission for Azula Appreciation Day (last Friday). For those of you not familiar with the name, she's a prime character in the tv series Avatar: The Last Airbender. If you don't know what that show is, you're missing out on life. Seriously.

So for non-watchers, who is Azula? Without spoiling anyone, she's a villain in the show. Azula is the princess of the Fire Nation, and a power hungry fire bending prodigy. Throughout the series, she's usually seen plotting to capture the Avatar. She's not a favourite character of mine (who am I kidding, I love all the characters in Avatar...except Jet..and Ozai), but her development in the show is what interests me - especially in contrast to her brother Zuko.

On a another note, this is my very first flash animation! Very basic, very easy...nope. It took me 3-5 hours to figure out because I had no idea how to use it. Especially alpha levels. But I admit it was fun changing a simple illustration to an animation. Time to make some more basic ones and improve!

Here's a quick gif of the painting process.

Art Dump!

Okay, all my "T for Temptation" stuff (excluding current sketch/ plot details and what not) is here as promised. Ready? Lets go.
P.S. Any critique is welcome, please tell me so I can improve! :D
P.S.S. I know A's falling off the page  haha

 Profile:Name- Adam
Age-20
What You Need to Know- He's a bit of a control freak/perfectionist. He's used to having everything being in place (a thing since childhood), so the way he acts can be somewhat rigid. When things fall apart, he's cooked. But he's a very loyal guy. (all this info seems random, but will hopefully make sense...)
Character Song-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5MCExpXou3k. Did I mention he has major swag value? (being a business student does that to you)

Snapshot

So yeah, haven't been drawing as of late. Here's a crappy webcam photo of a sketch of the interior of the family car that I did today. Speaking of which, I've been rather busy this week, packing up all of my family's belongings for the new house that we're moving into. It's surprising finding all the things that I've been holding onto since we've moved into this house. Letters, boarding tickets, pamphlets of the places my family has been to, notes from Gr. 10 (yup, I'm kind of obsessive of having my notes with me in case I need them), planners, you name it. It's also kind of heartbreaking throwing them away - even though they're worthless and clutter up the house . One example was an cute gift from a friend in Gr. 8. But then again, the memories associated with them are more important. I hope everyone is doing well! :)

P.S. Eurovision songs are so addictive, like this one and this one! I wish I could sing beautiful songs about the rivers in the motherland..except they're probably not as nice.

Surgery

This weekend has been a fantastic one. Finishing up my English Lit. course, going to the seasonal nightmarket with my seniors, finishing my OC revamp and a yummy Father's Day dinner equals happy happy happy. Ah, written English at its finest. I'll be posting some shots from my visit to a famous chocolatier very soon. For now, here's the revamp and the painting process. I know, I hate the lips too.   Happy Father's Day!

Nostalgia

I was recently inspired by one of my favourite artists on tumblr to revamp one of my first original characters that I created when I was twelve. Boy, has it brought up some good memories! I'm feeling quite nostalgic right now painting her. It doesn't help that I'm reading Le Petit Prince either haha! And it's now time to indulge in some more memories by watching La Grande Séduction (remember this D?).

To my 12 year-old self:
-  Woah, woah. You have some crazy taste in hair colour for your ocs girlfriend.
-  Art is more than just drawing with a pencil. Try other mediums like painting and photography.
You'll probably end up liking them!
-  Some will eventually tell you that drawing isn't worth it. Don't listen to them.

P.S. If any of you were interested in my oc, here's a small rundown:
Name: Mariko (guess who liked Japanese names?)
Age: 15
What You Need To Know: She's a sweet girl (daughter of a florist), who's always looking after her best friends. She can't stand it when people misidentify flowers - seriously, who CAN identify their flowers?
Character Song:Style by Kana Nishino

"Frailty, Thy Name Is Woman"

Sup buttercup? I mean, thy eyes shine brighter than the stars which line the sky; I long to hear of your day and listen to your voice, the sweetness of which is only rivaled by the singing of birds. Okay, enough romantic banter / wannabe Shakespeare talk.Speaking of which, anyone recognize this quote? If so, kudos to you! This actually applies to my character T, which I'm finally showing off (her profile at least) today. She's different from the girls I like to draw, which is so refreshing! And no intricate backstory this time either, yessss. It's time to draw her partner, A.

Profile:

Name- Tiffany
Age - 20
What You Need to Know - Lady by day, temptress by night. She has a very easy-going personality (profile fails to show this orz), and is very persuasive. You'd want to get to know her for a good time in the club or in bed.
Character Song - Something along the lines of Chromeo and Ezra Koenig's "I Could Be Wrong", but a little more sultry/ jazzy.

P.S. Sorry for the absence, last week was a whirlwind of volunteering and first aid training. And to my scanner, I hate you.

Okay, I Lied

It looks like my baby (hahaha, no) Ms. T won't be making an official appearance until Thursday. Probably because I was thinking quite rashly when I signed up for 2 8:00 A.M. for a children's festival in the city. And getting there takes an hour and a half. At least I'll get to spend time with kids and speak French, woot woot. So    as a poor consolation prize, anyone who wanted to see T gets a few camera shots of her early(?) designs. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. She's kind of promiscuous. And part giraffe from the first shot.

Challenge

[It looks so wondrous, but at the same time, it can harm me. Do I touch it and burn myself, or do I protect myself from the pain while not seeing how much good it can do for me?]

This is my first serious attempt to paint digitally. Apart from the anatomy flaws and the ball of light/fire that looks like a flaming red onion, I'm quite proud of it! Although they'll probably never see this, this is dedicated to W and K. Thanks to you two, I think I'm ready to do what I need to do. Time taken: approx. 3-4 hours.

Artist Inspiration 2

Okay, so it's not visual art, but photography counts right? When I stumbled upon the photos here, there was a terrifying quality to them (seriously, a gun pointed to your head doesn't equal sunshine and rainbows), and I found it almost surreal. I totally thought these shots were staged...but, they're real. I still have a hard time believing it.

Artist Inspiration

As a current science student, I've always pondered whether it was the right decision to make - considering art has always been my raison d'être. The two ideas are on the opposite sides of the spectrum; one deals with logic and reasoning, while the other challenges the mind to make daring leaps in the realm of creativity. It seems impossible to combine the two together without some great release of madness. But somehow, Ariel Ruiz has done it. He's made art that is connected to science - take for example, the human face above composed of what appears to be cells. Side note: he's a scientist too. I've only selected a few images from his Genome and Identity gallery, but all of his art is hauntingly beautiful. I encourage everyone to take a peek at his website, http://www.ruizialtaba.com!

Who's that girl?

My photo
Hola, I'm an aspiring illustrator scientist (do those exist?) who occasionally dresses well. Lets be friends. :)
